Hi! It's good to be back among friends. I'm still wading through all of the good stuff I missed out on while up in Michigan.

I spent a lot of my vacation sleeping! Don't know why, because I didn't bike any more than normal (the trips were longer, but there weren't as many as when I bike to work). It was very relaxing up north (the nearest railroad was 30 miles away). I would doze off to the sound of the waves or the wind in the trees.

Weather could have been better; it was unseasonably cold, and we had the threat of rain nearly every day we were there. The day we left the cottage for Grand Rapids, I biked on both the Hart-Montague Trail and the Musketawa Trail (practically the entire length of both). No sooner had I left Ravenna and entered truly desolate country, than the clouds let go, making my last 15 miles quite miserable. Pat, who had driven ahead, didn't encounter any rain until she went to pick me up at her brother's house (I had finally given up and headed there instead of going on to her folks' house--that made the trip about five miles shorter than it should have been).

I had to abort my last planned bike trip (Grand Rapids to Schoolcraft) because I would have missed seeing family members at the reunion had I taken the time to bike. Part of that trip (Grand Rapids to Byron Center) would have been on an old rail-trail, too. But I've done that trip before, so was willing to give it up.

I really didn't see many trains, or even freight cars, during the entire vacation. I'd brought along about a half-dozen magazines to read (stuff I hadn't gotten to yet), but kept falling asleep! So I was happy to get back home where the trains run fast and furious.

Didn't see much of Mom this trip, SJ, but she's doing fine.

We can probably fix the cake problem....... A few of us in the Coffee shop can whip something up. But if CW isn't there, that's all it'll be, whip, not necessarially tasting really good...................
