QUOTE: Originally posted by Mookie UP Corporation sued a Pennsylvania company hired to keep trees and other vegetation clear of rail crossings through the UP's 23 state system. A Hazleton PA company failed to maintain an Arkansas xing - where a woman and daughter were killed 8/7/2000. UP settled a lawsuit for $12.5 million. Now UP wants the PA company to pay UP $12.5 million plus attorney and legal fees. The company is in the 4th year of a 5 year contract and was hired after UP acquired SP - and found SP trackage to be in need of attention. Vegetation was cleared 8 weeks before the accident - (that's 2 mos and even in Nebraska, weeds will grow pretty fast in 2 mos!). But the next item has me packing Millie for a road trip! UP opened a 2nd floor cafeteria at their headquarters in Omaha at 14th & Douglas. To the public! Offer several food stations: a salad bar, deli, pizza station, entree station, grill and healthful eating station with dishes like poached salmon filet with steamed veggies. It draws an average of 1700 people a day and 20% aren't UP employees. Lunches are priced at about $5, with some specials for $4. UP employees receive a discount (wonder if that includes Foamettes?) Sounds like a good deal to me and maybe even fun! Will have to check them out and see if they measure up to our diner! Mookie
