BLOG: 2011 - September Outing
Posted by Stourbridge Lion on Thursday, September 22, 2011 11:58 AM

Lisa and I just recently took a long weekend getaway down to Colorado Springs that we used as a base camp for various day trips in the region.

  • Friday (9/16)
We started the day touring the Garden of the Gods and then toured Miramont Castle. Neither of these were planned to be RR destinations but what did I find in the castle!

  • Saturday (9/17)
First destination of the day, a ride on the Royal Gorge Route. We will take lots of photographs and I took my new HD Camcorder for it's first Railfan action.

We will spend the afternoon traveling though Phantom Canyon which is the RR roadbed of the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad

  • Sunday (9/18)
Today's plan is hiking in Mueller State Park which also contains Midland Terminal Railroad history.

  • Monday (9/19)

Both on Sunday and Monday we will tour Gold Mining sites near Victor Colorado and this is also an area rich in RR lines long since gone but things can still be found if you look hard enough and it also helps when you find documentation!
