Kerry and Edwards are going to take an 1,800 mile train trip from St. Louis to Las Vegas with stops in between on their campaign trail. Whether you're a Democrat or Republican or could care less, at least they're riding the rails!

Yeah ....But when they step off at Las Vegas, NM and think they are gonna hop on over to "The Strip", boy are they in for a surprise![:D]

Don't know if Amtrak is running a second section on #3 (Southwest Chief) or they are on the back end of the regular train that already won't fit alongside the platforms at most places...What happens to the 8-10 roadrailers normally on the train?

I would imagine Amtrak will make a small adjustment for a man who might be our next president.

Speaking of this, does anyone know what Kerry and Edward's voting records are on Amtrak? Just wondering if they even support it or not.

I don't think Kerry and Edwards really care. I heard that Edwards takes his wife out for Wendy's. They are not government yet which is probably what they are thinking.

Best if they put Kerry and Edwards in the Roadrailers neither has been a supporter of Amtrak.

Save a roadrailer for Bush/Cheney also; they have done squat for Amtrak or any other mass transit.

Good thing this isn't a political forum.

I think that is really cool. I lived in St. Louis all my life and I have been wanting to run Kerry out of town on a rail for some time now.

I would guess Amtrak will make some quality adjustments for Kerry and Edwards. I doubt they want to be arriving everywhere 2 hours late...

But besides the adjustments, it is interesting that they will be riding Amtrak.

Would be neat if their train were riding on Union Pacific's rails. Well then again, those poor dispatchers would really start pulling their hairs out!

(Antonio..... they were from St. Louis to KC, then they ride on what used to be a real railroad before 1996...)

Careful they might read this and try it (With super Secret Service Protection, of course). Actually it would be a pretty cool to see both of the Multi-Millionaire Sentators riding on on a WORK CAR. Now that would be somthing to see.[(-D][(-D][swg][:-^]

Haven't found a list of the consist or a good "overall" picture of the train, but I do know that the main passenger car at the rear used by Kerry/Edwards is the same car used by Harry Truman on his campaign trail. This shows a picture of one of Amtrak's new Genesis locomotives that is pulling the campaign train.

Kerry's wife didn't know what corn was, does she have any idea what a train is, she's still probably pondering this as we speak. Mudchicken, they had their own train, not a section of the Southwest Chief.

I think that's where they have been posing for pictures, the back of a road-railer.
They don't deserve a better spot.[:)]

The track between STL and KC was a real railroad until 1982 when they merged out mo-pac (lord rest it's soul). Here's a link for pix, really nice pictures except all the Kerry-Edwards stuff http://www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php?train_id=Kerry-Edwards%20Special . There ya go!

....What's this stepping off of the train at Las Vegas, NM....?? For sure it is a complete campaign train....Believe they can afford not to just tack on to an Amtrak scheduled train.
Looks like that rear car has fresh paint job.

Modelcar,

Looks like the static cling wrap, not paint, used on transit busses, etc. After the trip, just pull the graphics off and throw it in the garbage.

In short my thoughts on this years campaign[zzz][zzz][zzz][zzz][zzz] Great look for the Blue livery of the Kerrytons, I wonder if the Bushites will have a RED Livery or Nadertorians will have WHITE Livery. What a novel idea to create new livery for passenger work in a freight train world. Come to think of it; that might just be the most exciting thing to come out of the whole election this year. Almost as exciting as watching paint dry with out the clean smell of fresh paint[;)]

I read some cars were built in 1914. Are these museum pieces up to cross country excursions? And what about other amenities like air conditioning, and flush on the tracks WC's?
