HIstory of CSX Metropolitan Subdivision
Posted by dcrailfan on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 12:45 PM

I am doing a seminar on the CSX Metropolitan Subdivision with my round-robin group the second week in September. However, I would like to know a few details that are unclear to me.

Here are some

When did Weverton's VO tower come down?

I had some excellent pictures pre-post 1960s Randolph, Garrett Park and Catholic University of America(CUA) stations but can anyone suggest where I can find them.

The creation of Catoctin tunnel

In Chessie days where were the helpers situated(I have heard that they were stationed between Point of Rocks and Gaithersburg, but I am not certain).

Did the Georgetown Accident of 1996 bring about any changes?

Please feel free to leave any other facts that you the community forum member feels worthy.

For the benefit of those unaware of what I speak of this is the line between Weverton, MD and Washington DC, ex B&O in nature and is still used by CSX to haul Coal, Trash, Automobiles, Manifest Freights, among others. Amtrak and regional commuter MARC both run trains on this line regularly with the Capitol Limited (DC-Chicago) and commuters and (Martinsburg, WV, Brunswick, MD, and Frederick, MD to DC and vice versa respectively. This is also hosted the Capitol Limited(B&O), Cincinattian and other B&O streamliners back in the day.

Thanks for the help.
