Chris - webspace isn't all that expensive. Flickr gives you an easy way to display your stuff, though.

This is how I embed the link into text:
1) Copy the link.
2) Type: {URL= (except the { is a [)
3) Paste the link after the equal sign.
4) Type: } (except the } is a ])
5) Write the text that you want the link to be embedded in (example: Flickr Link)
6) Type: {/URL} (again substituting { and } for [ and ])
So the end product for your shot would look like this:
{URL=http://www.flickr.com/photos/jim53171/5892262164/sizes/l/in/photostream/}Flickr Link{/url}
except that you'll need to replace the { and }'s with [ and ]'s.

I am confused about the links however. In the example you provided, if I mouse over the image I get a particular link, but if I look at the URL on the actual link you provided, it shows a different address. (And yes, I would like to know how to do the short link names).
It worked!!! Now I'll wait a day to see if it keeps working (my others stopped showing after a day).

Here's my process for posting from Flickr:
1) I open one tab with my Trains.com post and another with the Flickr Photo I'd like to share. So, let's say I'm going to go with this one. (I tried to pick something colorful for you, Jim)
2) On the Flickr Page, right click on the picture. That will bring up Flickr's display size options. In this case, the original is 1024 x 680, so I'll click on Original.
3) That will bring up the actual image for display. You'll again right click on the picture, but your next move depends on which browser you're using. I use both, so I can describe both processes. In FireFox, pick "Copy Image Location" when you right click. In Internet Exploder, you'll need to right click and choose "Properties," That will bring up another window. Highlight the URL and right click to copy it.
4) Head back to your Trains.com post. When you get to a point in your post where you want to place the picture, click the icon that looks like a film strip in the toolbar. That will bring up a box prompting you to Insert Media. Paste the address of the photo.
5) With other film hosts, that would be enough. If you read Flickr's Terms of Service, though, it states that:
Do link back to Flickr when you post your Flickr content elsewhere. Flickr makes it possible to post content hosted on Flickr to other web sites. However, pages on other web sites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr. This provides a way to get more information about the content and the photographer.
I try to clean it up a bit by making a Flickr Link below each shot. If you want to know how that's done let me know.
The end result should yield a photo like this:
It's kind of a hassle, so I wouldn't recommend Flickr for image hosting anymore. However, I'm already established there and active in the Flickr community, so I'll stick with it for now. One of these days I'd like to do like Tree and get my own site for my better stuff (my Flickr site has a lot of "lesser" images that I post because they still might be of interest to family and friends).

I'll agree with Larry...I follow your photostream Jim...I'm waiting.
You can select which size image you want to share on Flickr. It's as easy as click, copy, paste. The next 4 images are linked here using the method I've outlined in the pictures. Graphically...right?
Step 1Start on the page of the picture (from Flickr) that you want to use. Click the "drop carrot" near the envelope (circled in red). Under "Grab the HTML/BBCode" you have some options.
Step 2Select the type (HTML for here) size image you want to display. Click in the area where the code appears. Right click on your mouse to find the "Copy" command.
Step 3In the "Post Message Box here at Trains.com click on the "HTML" button circled in red.
Step 4In the appropriate space of the box that appears simply right click, select "Paste" and then "Update" (at the bottom-left) circled in red.
That should work and be applicable with other sites.

Each tag is enclosed by both [ and ], ie, [tag]. You left the closing bracket off IMG.
Quoting your post gave me the "source code." I just made the correction. If you go back to your original post and "quote" it, you'll see. Just back button out of it and you won't post anything. You can do the same thing with my post.
Tags usually come in pairs. The closing tag is the same as the opening tag, but with a slash in front of it: [tag]something[/tag].
Some of the more involved tags (color, font) just use the keyword at the closing end.
Forum code is quite similar to HTML - the basic language of websites. In HTML the tags are enclosed with <> instead of []. I've done several websites, so jumping over to forum code is easy.
Rather than use the radio buttons at the top of the reply box, I just type in the italic, bold, and underline tags if I want to use them. You can nest them, so you can have a word in bold and italic, and underline it, too....

I've taken photos of trains for so long and did not really have anybody to share them with; now I can get helpful comments and reccommendation from others on how to improve my technique.

edblysard 240X159 pixels is the size your photo is...before you post it to Flickr or Photobucket, use photoshop or what ever software your computer has to enlarge it. Or... You can change the size your computer stores photos at, I just have to remember how...its part of the down load software, I think under advance in your toolbar. That way, when you download from your computer to Flicker or Photobucket, the inage will look the same on those sites, but be large when posted to a internet forum or other site, as it uploads at the original size....Geeks like Tree can figure it out I am sure.
