Sacramento Locomotive Works

If you have read today's Trains Newswire you know that UP has reached a tentative deal to sell Southern Pacific's Sacramento Locomotive Works. I guess this will probably be the final nail in the coffin of the SLW. Thats a shame.

It sure looks that way, although they did mention some possible "deal killers".
Do you know if the Calif State RR Museum has any equipment on shop property?

I thought that the CSRM allready took possesion of 3 of the buildings??? I do know that they had gotten the transfer table working between the erecting shop and boiler shop. I think the sale was for the rest of the yard. I beleve those 3 buildings are on an historical registry.

Yes, I thought CSRM had some of the property. They sure mention it in their newsletter. The Trains news wire item did not mention anything about that though...

Three of the buildings belong to the California State Railroad Museum and are not part of the deal for the old Sacramento shop complex. The part that is being redeveloped has already been torn down and is the open land in the aerial pictures of the area near the Amtrak Station.

Thats what I thought. That deal was for the rest of the land[:D] One of these days I'll kick down and become a member so I can help restore the units

Same here. I know there was a big article in the Sacramento bee about the restoration and finishing of the transfer table. I am pretty sure that SP gave them CSRM a couple of the buildings just wasn't sure about all of them. I thought I read an article about the possiblity of UP donating the final building(s) upon completion of sale.
Would be nice though if they could get the SF steamers inside. They have been outside for a long time and I understand that this is a sore spot with BNSF or so I have heard.
