My wife wants to give me a digital camera for Christmas. I no very little about them. Any ideas on makes and models or important features to have for photographing locomotives, rolling stock and structures for modeling purposes? Any sugestions are appreciated.

I am old fashioned I guess because I still use an SLR camera that uses film.A digital camera is fine for photographing static subjects, but I have heard there may be a short delay between pressing the button to open the shutter and when the shutter opens so moving objects may not be where they should be in the picture. In other words the digital camera sort of has a mind of its own.

Frank, I bought a Canon Pro 90is a while back and just love it. Pics are better than expected and with the image stabilation system there is no more camera blur. In comparable 35mm lens ranges it covers from 37mm to 370mm. I have swithced to it exclusivly and have my Nikon's for sale. It is that good!
