This would be interesting to see on a iPhone/Android/Blackberry.  It would, however, likely need to rely on ATCS servers which are accessible on the Internet. I know there are some ATCS servers for various areas throughout the country.  While possible, it would be somewhat difficult to interface a scanner to a smartphone.

ATCS may be the answer to your quest, if the lines you fan are using it.  Check out the ATCS Yahoo usergroup.

Some lines with ATCS have been put on the web, otherwise you need to mod a scanner to pick up the frequency and port it to your laptop.

Train Transponder Data????
Posted by andy and the r man on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 9:36 PM

Hi Everyone,

I'm a train enthusiast who goes out "hunting" with my 2 and 4 year old kids as well as a wide array of cameras here in Austin, TX. I have a client of mine (I'm a gym owner and a personal trainer) who builds mobile phone applications (I use a blackberry) and I asked him to build an application that would show where a train was in real or near real time so as to make our expeditions a lot more productive. I know they use gps and have transponders, but is this data available anywhere on the net? If it is, the application would be simple to do  he said.

Thanks!

Andy
