What does TRAINS pay for the Photo of The Day and other photos?
I'm considering submitting some.

I sent one about a month ago that was taken in Galesburg Illinois. I haven't seen it on here yet. It's a SD40-2 going under a signal bridge, has anyone seen it? Did I miss it?

I've seen them around. We had one visit the P&L severals years ago,
and I had the privilege of getting on it. The operater was "tieing" it down
the day,so didn't get much of chance to ask a lot of questions,or see all the workings[:(]

Did get to take a lot of pictures outside.

And Jay,that was a good pic,enjoyed it,pinted it out.[:D]

I submitted a photo after reading this thread last week, the first one that I have sent in and it was put up today (July 26). Very exciting for me, I realize that there are others here that have had quite a few photos make the cut, but it is still just exciting for my first time. [:D]

To what address did you send the photo? They should be sent to me at either editor@trains.com or ebergstrom@trains.com.

Please keep in mind that we run Spam filtering software that might catch a legitimate e-mail because of what's in the subject line. That's why it's best to simply put Photo of the Day in the subject line.

Also, I get a fair number of submissions per week and I have quite a backlog. There's certainly no science to how I choose photos for the Photo of the Day, but your chances of getting up relatively quickly are greatly improved by including a well-written caption that includes your full name. If there's no name to credit, it typically gets deleted.

If you'd like the full instructions for submitting photos, read this story.

I don't recall seeing your photo, dougal, so you might want to send it directly to me again.

Take care,
Bergie

On the left hand side of the main page there is a link for photos, videos, etc. Click that and there is a drop down box for choices.... photo of the day is one of the choices. If you leave the category as "select one:" and just click search it will bring up recent photos of the day.

As Tom Hank's character in "The Money Trap" asked, "Would a bribe help?"

NOOOO!! I DIDN'T MEAN TO SAY THAT!!!

A little contribution to the baby's college fund.

AAARRRGH-SOMETHING EVIL HAS TAKEN OVER MY FINGERS!!!!!

Seriously, I submitted several photos before having one selected. (See today) I feel honored as I don't yet have extensive experience with the new camera. I suspect that having a subject just a little different may have helped. The quality of the shot came with a little luck, as I sure don't have the experience to come up with a technically good shot with high frequency.

Maybe Bergie will come in with a more definative answer for you, but it may also just come down to what strikes the fancy. Final thought-keep sending your best, and I am sure you will hit one day.

...I have no idea what controls the time it may appear, but I believe mine was posted within a week or 10 days. Perhaps there are more entries available now and it may take longer.
