Independant Rail Roads in New York.

Can any one tell me which Railroads run in New York mostly the five boros. Also if the bought out any railroads. So far I have seen Two and three green Indiana diesls hooked up to a few trains that go through Queens. I am guessing the company that owns them is no longer Indiana since I have seen them for a few months. Also I have seen three red New York Bell Deisels. Can anyone add or help?
Thanks
Angelo

You have the New York and Atlantic. They provide freight service on the LIRR they are in Queens.
The New York Cross Harbor they are located in Brooklyn.
The idea of seeing a green goat or green kid is not surprising in New York. Has any one seen any thing about this?

The two green locomotives that Angelo saw in Queens belong to the New York and Atlanic Railway. They are two SW-1200's #9321 and #9373 aquired from NY&A's sister railroad the Louisville & Indiana still in thier old company's colors, green with a yellow stripe. They also acquired a GP-10 #201 (in Conrail colors) from the same sister road.
The NY&A is a little power short due to increased traffic and these locos will help free up some of NY&A's exLIRR cab signalled equipped locomotives for use on the main line while these new acquires can be used as trailers on the LIRR mainlines or by themselves in dark territory like the Bay Ridge and Bushwick Branches.
Angelo, what do you mean by "red New York Bell" units?? Do you mean the red CP Rail SD-40-2's that come the Fresh Pond Jct. three times a week?

Yes, Louisville and Indiana and they are green with yellow stripe with the CN I saw behind. Three hooked together sometimes only two. Not really sure if the other was CN might have been a calf.
The other one I saw is Atlantic, I thought it was a Bell.
I see the green L&Is by western beef, and sometimes behind the transit plant in glendale. I only have seen the red atlatics in glendale By the transit plant. The L&Is usually come across metropolitan by western beef around 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm They hold up traffic, but I wait on purpose to see them. It is the same tracks where the diesel rolled out of the yard hit some cars and blew up a truck a few months ago. Thanks for the Info guys. Was wondering how the hech those two got so far from home.
Hey Colin Do you know when the red CP Rail SD-40-2's that come the Fresh Pond Jct come through?
Thanks again Angelo
