Question:  Would lions and tigers be considered HazMat?

LOL!!!!! Wonder which placard they would use? Maybe explosive?

My guess is that the reason they haul them by truck would be not to have to transfer them to the railcar on the spur. Less handling = less liability. I also would imagine that by truck would also have less sudden loud noises (slack action, diamonds, etc.).

They go by truck.

My guess is the circus wants to avoid handling the "big cats" any more than necessary.  If one or more got loose it would be a disaster.  Once they've got 'em on a truck it's better to "just go" than to fool around with any kind of intermodal transfer.

Question:  Would lions and tigers be considered HazMat?

"By many measures, the U.S. freight rail system is the safest, most efficient and cost effective in the world." - Federal Railroad Administration, October, 2009. I'm just your average, everyday, uncivilized howling "anti-government" critic of mass government expenditures for "High Speed Rail" in the US. And I'm gosh darn proud of that.

QUESTION Circus Train article

In the recent excellent article about the Circus Trains, a comment was made that the big cats travel by other means. What are these means and are the big cats too hard to handle on trains? Just wonderin'.
