The two I came across were stopped on the side of the road, lights flashing, for some reason. After they crossed back over, they were looking at the front of their car, so I wonder if they didn't hit a deer.

I can understand not wanting the uniforms to be visable, but you have to make yourself visable when you're not where you're supposed to be. (That means on the side of the road, outside of the car.)

You don't want to even come close to cops.

It's good to hear that nobody was hurt.

Here in BC the RCMP and Vancouver Police all have a highly reflective stripe that runs down the side of their pants, and when they wear their jackets the word "Police" is written in highly visible material. They are near impossible to miss at night time.

I am surprised that not all police uniforms have these features nowadays.

When it's dark and at any moment someone may want to shoot you, you tend to not want to stand out and be easily seen. If these paricular cops were working an accident scene, or something that they knew they would be at for a while, they should have had flares or warning lights, but highly reflective clothing is always a hard sell to US cops.

I always try to keep my flashlight on when cars approach and stay mindful that they probably can't see my navy blue uniform and black duty gear at night. I did however stop wearing white t-shirts under my uniform after somebody pointed out that I had a white triangle pointing at my heart...

Of the two police officers crossing the road. They're lucky I saw them, my car may have gotten too close to them for comfort. Please consider this a warning for anyone working near roads at dusk: The driver of a car may NOT see you, not due to bad vision, but poor visability. Make SURE we can see you when you cross the road.

A flashlight pointed at the road would have helped tremendously, or reflective tape on their uniforms.

p.s. Please pass this on to those you know in jobs that require working near the road.
