Chicago & Western Indiana's signals at Burnham would also display a Red-Red-Lunar when the interlocking was lined for entrance into Burnham yard. CWI's operating rules showed this aspect as a permissive indication.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

The Lunar is used for Restricting. It allows following trains to keep moving instead of stopping and waiting for the train to clear the next block (3445 in this case, I work this line). I think on your item 3, you mean Yellow, Red, Red. If the Yellow is in the middle, you are lined into the Cargill lead.
That specific signal, the lunar could be for either the main or the industrial lead. It is a holdover from the CNW which used lunar for all routes. The UP when putting in new signals uses a Flashing Red for restricting on signalled routes and a lunar for unsignalled routes (i.e., into yards).
The Cargill lead was signalled. At least some of it has been removed, maybe all. The local that works Blair comes out of Council Bluffs and that job comes off a different seniority district so I only work the main line trains thru there.

FOR MABY 5 YEARS OR MORE NOW THERE HAS BEEN A MAINLINE SIGNAL HERE IN BLAIR,NE AT MILEPOST 341.25 ON THE BLAIR SUB.
THE QUESTION IM ASKING IS FIRST....WHEN A WESTBOUND CLEARS THE SIGNAL THE SIGNAL DOES THIS:
1.RED,RED,RED.
THEN AS THE TRAIN CLEARS HALF WAY UP TOWN THE SIGNAL THEN GOES:
2.RED,RED.LUNER OR (WHITE).
THEN AS THE TRAIN CLEARS THE SIGNAL AT MILEPOST 344.0 THE SIGNAL DOES THE NORMAL:
3.YELLOW,RED,RED. AND FINALLY:
4.GREEN,RED,RED.
THE QUESTION IM ASKING IS,WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A (WHITE) SIGNAL ON OR FOR A MAIN LINE? IS A (WHITE) SIGNAL THE SAME THING AS A YELLOW SIGNAL?????????
