Sounds like it was just a local freight....it would be interesting to know what caused it.

At least nobody got injured.

From the WSTM TV website:

No injuries were reported Thursday when a train derailed in Auburn, sending two cars plunging from a bridge into water below.

The derailment happened shortly before 2 pm Thursday. The seven-car train jumped the tracks while crossing the State Street bridge, sending two cars into the Owasco Outlet. The bridge is close to Curley's Restaurant, a popular spot at 96 State Street, in the city.

The train is owned by Finger Lakes Railway. There is no word what cargo the train was carrying, though a fire coordinator's office spokesperson said he believed the train was carrying large rolls of paper.

He said he didn't believe anything toxic or hazardous was onboard.

Emergency crews secured the area surrounding the accident while an investigation continued. The cleanup effort was believed to take a while because of power lines and other obstacles that would prevent a crane from lifting the cars out of the water.

The city's manager said there were minor traffic delays as a result of the derailment, and people were urged to use alternate routes.

7 cars - 1 into the Owasco Inlet, 3 into a restaurant parking lot. No report about the other 3 cars other than they left the tracks!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
