RR Wood Reefer Photo?

Would any one by chance have old photos (color by chance) of wood sided reefers? 2 swing doors on side and 4 ice doors on top type.
Looking for weathering conditions on the cars.

Anyone that has a full file of past Trains Magazines can come up with one. Iced-cars were frequently featured in Trains in the 50's, with photos of the icing platforms that were along the main limes of the SP and UP and ACL and SAL and others, where long perishable trains stopped and an army of men walked that platforms at roof level shoving fresh ice through the hatches. I rember the Pacific Fruit Express, owned jointly by UP and SP, who owned about half the number of these cars in operation. The New York Central in partnership with some others had Merchants Dispatch, white instead of yellow-orange. Others were railroad owned, but the most colorful were the private owners such as Hormels meat products. These were rolling billboards.

The PFE book has lot of discussion and photos. Basically until early to mid 1950's pfe cars were repainted and cleaned regularly, after that less often.

I mudhopped in Wenatchee WA in late 1960's and WFEX, FGEX, BREX icers then were clean.

Gosh Yes!!! Didn't Ice Reefers and Icing same at every Division Point disappear FAST?!?!? On all the Trains, then Gone. Went faster that Steam.


Can tell what Counts in the World. There are NOT Rotting Ice Reefers on Display in Parks across the land.
