UP crew's and Service units

Can anyone tell me how the Union Pacific use's there crew's on the service units in iowa? Can a crew that is on a train in one service unit operate that train onto another serivce unit? Like on a diverging route that connects to a main line on another service unit does the crew operate the train to the first tie up terminal?
