KCSM bicentennial ES44ACs
Posted by Lyon_Wonder on Sunday, August 01, 2010 7:39 PM

KCSM has painted 3 ES44ACs #4722, #4746 and 4747 for Mexico's bicentennial of 2010:)  When I think of the bicentennial it conjures images of red, white and blue.  But there's no blue on KCSM's bicentennial GEVos since Mexico uses red, white and green for their national colors.  It's neat KCSM painted 3 ES44ACs in Mexico's bicentennial colors instead of just one.  It reminds me of ATSF having 5 bicentennial SD45-2s #5700-5704 back in the mid-1970s.

Interesting paint scheme!  Before I saw it, I had pictured something on the order of the 'Belle" scheme.

One thing for sure those three will really stand out!

It would be interesting to see a closer image of the rear two units, I would like to know what the dark splotches are in the upper white sections on both locos.

 Lyon_Wonder,

Thanks. Kinda makes one wonder what the Bicentennial locos in the USA would have looked like if today's graphics materials and technology were available in the early to mid '70's.

The graphics on the locomotives were not evident in the first selection posted. That is an amazing effect on a canvas as large as a locomotive. Certainly, eye catching, and unique!

Appreciate the additional posts. Thanks.

These ES44ACs look better than KCS’s previous bicentennial loco in the 1970s, SD40-2 #642.

Technically speaking, only one of the locomotives honors 200 years of Mexican Independence.  One honors the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution which created the modern Mexico.  The third honors Mexican heroes from the revolution and independence.

Those locomotives are sharp.

The KCS bicentennial loco(USA) was designed by school kids--I believe in some form of contest. Hard to believe there weren't better entries.

Imagine the paint shop foreman's reaction when the winning entry was handed to him for duplication.

I like the paint on them. Great shot!

Ay caramba!   Great idea - but not so well executed.   The font on the letterling looks like something from Barnum and Bailey's circus train.

Thx, Dblstack
