Did you know there are a lot of UP trains in Nebraska?

Northplatt, Nebraska, loaded with UP's, but they will chase you out. I was there in 1997 with camcorder, and they were firm, stay away.
Also, Lincoln, Nebraska, huge BNSF yard, they allow pictures and maybe a tour of yard.

well a few guys i talked too in deshler have taken that rt 30 drive.and up engines were in abundance over here including the 2001 olympic logo locmotive.

Money seems to be no object when it is something they really want.
About half way between the CTC islands they are working on at Carroll and Vail are survey stakes for another CTC island. It is on a 30foot embankment. They are going to move alot of dirt for that. They could move it's location about a mile to the east and save a lot of money on the grading, but no, it goes right where it was planned. It seems a lot of decisions are made in the office with little regard to actual field conditions. Plus once they make a decision, they would rather keep spending money to make it work, than admit they made a mistake.
There is also new talk about a new bridge over the Mississippi at Clinton. A bridge high enough to go over the river without needing a swing span for river traffic.
I don't think any of this will happen soon, but never say never.

My god if the UP were to build a new Double track line through washington co. my god where would the Up come up with the money? It'll be one hell of a task.....I mean this county is realy hilly. It would take a long time to cut every hill that thay come too. besides thay've been talking about the Double track for many years, and still nothing.

They thought about putting the second track back in between Mo Valley and Council Bluffs and I think were close to doing it, but then changed their mind. Some say it was because the FRA requires wider track centers on new double track, others said since it at one time had the second track, it good be grandfathered in on the old roadbed. I'm sure Mudchicken could comment better on this than I could.
I've heard of plans to double track the Blair sub, some of which would include a new alignment that would join the original UP at Mercer, a few miles south of Fremont. No time frame for that to happen.

I believe that the concrete tie gang is off now until after the 4th of July, then they'll be back working. Sceduled completion date is July 17. It looks like they are up to about MP300, between Dow City and Dunlap.
Just east of Carroll, Iowa they are about ready to cut in the CTC island. Looks like the switches are ready to be slid into the main, but still some wayside signal work to be done.
They are still doing dirt work at Vail, Iowa where another CTC island will be put into service.

Yes, even Uncle Carl, who's used to a steady stream of UP trains, found the main line west of Gibbon Junction impressive. I would have liked to spend more time trackside in Kearney than I did, but the weather was rainy when we were out there, and I'd much rather have the driving to destination behind me.

I'd like to come out there again when the spike in North Platte is finished.

there are a lotta UP trains EVERYWHERE. i was up at my brother's house in DeKalb sunday for about 4 hours and i must've heard about 50 trains go thru town. to alleviate some of the congestion i still think UP should invest in the old RI to chicago [:-^]

Yes, there are a lot of UP trains in Nebraska. Just the other day I went to Elkhorn and saw 4 in about 25 minutes. Going to Fremont for the Challenger on Saturday. Usually there are more in Fremont and on the triple track main through central Nebraska.

I took a road trip accross the country and did you know that there are a lot of Union Pacific trains in Nebraska? Also I went south of chicago on I-80 and saw a Metra commuter train and that was prestty cool. and saw a few more trains along the way. But there are a lot of UP trains in Nebraska!!! I stopped at a McDonalds and was only there for like 10 mnutes and saw like 6 or 7 trains go by. It was amazing.
