Help please

Actually, Iggy,
All of our switch locks have chains on them, attached to the lock and the switch, keeps them from traveling to far...
Scan me a photo and e-mail it to me @ [e-mail].
I will compare it to the UP locks we have, and if I get a chance, I will ask someone from UP about the R&B...

Is the key slot in the bottom, and looks like it uses a odd shaped key, one that isnt a flat key?

My UP switch key is round, with several lugs on it.

Sounds like an old baggage door lock on a station or perhaps on a tower or other building. I still think the best guess is it actually says or was meant to say "B & B" not R&B.

i want to thank you guys for the help!, but i have a couple of other things that might help. first, the lock is NOT from a switch, it had a 3 foot chain(verry rusted) attached to it, and looks like it had broke. it wasnt buy a sideing or any switchs. it was about 4feet from the rail on a mainline. the lock is in good shape,has verry little rust on it. it is rectangle and the stamping in it is verry deep and clear. it reads: U.P.R.R.(and under it in same size letters) R&B . a friend of mine walks the tracks home from work, he found the lock and knew my dad (Larry) and me were train fans, so he gave it to me. PLEASE end the insanity! WHAT IS R&B? its driving us nuts! Thank You, Larrys son[8D]

COuld it be "B&B"? B&B usually refers to the Bridge and Buildings department. Perhaps the first "R" on the lock is really a "B" worn down over the years or badly stamped to begin with. The only R&B I can think of is Rythm and Blues...lol... (couldn't resist, sorry)

Not real sure, but bet on a lock collecter knowing.

Where did you find it, not only what line, but was it near a sideing or a switch stand?
