CP Rail a class act
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 8:05 PM
I went to chase the 2816 from Chicago to Milwakee today and wow what a locomotive. But to top it off, Ive never felt so welcome by a bunch of guys on a railroad recently as i have today. To start the day a signal maintaner called the dispacher to find out where the tran was, a railroad cop who i though was gonna kick me out of this spot i found came up to talk with me and gave me a few locations i might try later in the day and to top it all off i got my picture taken with Doyle Mc Cormick right next to the locomotive while everyone else had to stay back. Great weather, great bunch of guys, great train. The CP has earned a brownie point in my book. LONG LIVE THE ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right on! Got some decent shots under the 75th Street Viaduct in Kenosha. About 5 or 6 of us waiting there got waves and whistle.

I agree with you about CP. They have certainly one some fans. I've been chasing her for a couple of days (rode on it once as well) up here in Ontario as well. I bet I've taken over two hundred pictures, my wife thinks I'm crazy but I'll live. On two occasions she stopped for a few minutes to have pictures taken with people, and the crowds were amazing. They were letting kids stand on the cow catcher , I also got a picture of my kids with the Engineer, Bill Statler.
When it was leaving Port Hope one of the CP Police let a small group of us us stand on the opposite side of the rails to the crowds (in the shade of the trees). We were about 8 feet from the rails, you should have felt the ground with the combination of the bell and whistle.
Kudos, CP

I'm not much of a CP fan, in fact they are #1 on my most hated RR list, but I have to commend them for what they're doing with the 2816. Definately a good PR move.

I agree that CP is a class act.
Through a freind at work who has a brother - in -law who works for CP, I was able to meet 2816 in Toronto Yard as she arrived from Montreal.
I was the only non-employee around & was able to climb into the cab where she was parked in the yard.
Everyone was polite & freindly while I was there.
I got some video & some more photo's of her that I'm waiting to get developed which some will be posted in my yahoo group hopefully sometime next week.

I have photos & video of her in the group now if you are interested
