Say money was no object (like I won the lottery), I would put in a long -travel cushion underframe under that caboose scrap the wheel-generator system for a diesel-powered one (mr dispatcher, will you stop this train and let it back up? As long as we're talking about private cars -

Reading this thread brings another question to mind: If a person was to fix up a caboose so it met all applicable standards (don't go there - it would be a thread in and of itself), would anyone haul it around? Occupied?

Train forces notwithstanding, it would be an interesting way to see the country. With the interior properly configured, it would just be a big camper.

In Orange Park, FL (south of Jacksonville), there was a two track gated siding off the CSX mainline which contained several private cars. This was a few years ago though. Don't know if it is still there.

They are called business car tracks in large terminals and passenger depots. Complete with MU electrical outlets, water hoses and sanitary dumps. With the relatively new FRA rule 49CFR218.71 that occupied camp cars and private cars have to be over 300 feet away from the main track , derail protected & blue flagged, the biz car spurs are fading away fast.

When you travel you see many camper/rv trailers on the highway and in parks especially for them. I was wondering IF there were "parks" especially for private railroad cars and if so WHERE? I know many people live in their camper/rvs all year round and travel down to Texas for the winter and go up north for the summer. Can people who own private railroad cars do the same? Does anybody have pics of such a "park"?
