I have not had any problems @ the DeWitt NY Yard. Rumor is that CSX has 'ran off' their cops!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

It all depends on the day it seems. I used to go there frequently but about 18 months ago the RR cops got real pissy about me taking pictures and asked me to leave the yard, so now I go about 30 miles further north (around exit 25A on NY Thruway), where the D&H interchanges with CSX as there the trains go by at speed. It used to be OK to go into the D&H yard but not for the last year as they too, can get real pissy, real quick about railfans getting too close.

With all of this terriost stuff happening. I would be surprised if any company lets you into their yard. If you want I can get a way you would be aloud in a NJT yard. Because my dad works for them and I am aloud. But any other yard...good luck.

I was looking at old pictures taken in the early seventys when we
would wander the CN Rail yard Island and CPRail yard Bayshore(now a
part of history)and never were questioned.try it today in the world of 9/11
and you be in cuffs.we take freedom too lightly and Al Qaida as being over
there but we as the security forces need respect as trust.

Prayers for the Nation as for
the President.

Don't know if they still do it, but several years ago went on a tour of CSX's shop at Cumberland, MD. It was in conjunction with some local festival, maybe "Railroad Days" or something similar. It was very informative and I enjoyed it.

I've never had much luck looking around at Selkirk -- as trainfan1221 says, the patrols are good. I can't say I blame them, though: Selkirk is the last place anyone can make a decent inspection of trains headed for either Boston or New York. Think about it... unfortunately, it's not a particularly nice world out there...

I doubt it. CSX will harass you if you go anywhere near Selkirk, at least that's what I heard. A couple of friends of mine went there and were viewing from a safe distance and were still asked to leave by a railroad cop. Word is stay away.

Or for that matter does anybody give any tours of yards or facilities? I know that most usually do not, however, I have seen anniversiry and facility opening tours. GE has hosted a few open houses up in Erie, PA as well. I'm sure that their are liability concerns, but it does happen.

Also, I have heard of railclubs getting tours.

Good luck, and if anybody knows of any open houses in GA...[;)]
