Cape Cod Train Accident Kills 1

BARNSTABLE, Mass. -- One person was killed Saturday after a train carrying tourists on a scenic Cape Cod railway collided with a car at a railroad crossing.

The accident between the car and the Cape Cod Central Railroad train occurred on Hyannis Road just after noon, The Cape Cod Times reported.

A witness told the paper the gate and lights at the crossing appeared to be working normally when the car carrying two people went through and was broadsided.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to Cape Cod Hospital.

No further information was immediately available.

A woman who answered the phone at the Cape Cod Central Railroad office said the company had no immediate comment
