Are you kidding? Take a look again John, 5th image down. - Steve crise
Dave got my theme vote - a nice mixture of "environmental" green and the green signal.
Steve was a very close second, and Drew's gets my "hang it on the wall" vote.
Andy and Jim get honorable mentions for their application of the theme.
I'm trying to figure out why Alex always seems to get so many votes, though, when the support doesn't seem to appear in the comments.

.....Must put Alex's "green" photo 1st, and Steve's green cab interior 2nd.
Of course being originally from that general location of Pennsylvania, and displaying a photo of the beautiful Pennsy business train, and it's location with plenty of green.....That had to be it for me.
But Steve's beautiful crystal clear photo of the cab interior was certainly one to consider....but as we know, we vote for just one.

I thought they were all nice photos. I suggest that with all of them together, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. What I mean here is there were great multiple interpretations of the "green" theme.
But I had to narrow it down to one, and I voted for Steve's this time, because it was well thought out and executed from both the composition and from the technical standpoint.
OK. Let's be philosophical. Let's be inspirational and inspired. Let's be interpretive. Let's be political. RAH! RAH! CISS BOOM BAH! GO GREEN AMERICA! Pick Jim Wrinn's pic. Green? the color? the foliage? the current program of power and patriotism? None of the others "spoke to me".

Not much in the way of 'green' this week. A red, white and blue loco in Jim's doesn't really depict the green theme, I really had to search for the green signal in David's and Alex's red loco's and carriages doesn't seem right to me either for a green theme. Hats off to drew for trying something different but I like to see the trains. Steve and Andy were the only two who really had it going for me and as I could only choose one I picked Andy's.
Went with Drew's unusual shot of what appeared to be a rail until you realised that there was some grass in it. Reminds me that Nature always wins & greenry growing on the right-of-way is a constant maintenance nightmare.

I love it when our photographers get whimsical and wry with the subject. Jim wins the wry humor award for the new to the job, “green” engine. Cute idea, but probably not the winner. David goes minimal and gives us that single green light dotting the low lit sky. I appreciate the “artist eye” there.Steve’s picture of Fireman Woods deserves to be repainted by Norman Rockwell. What a character study! And surrounded by green, that’s for sure. (I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that this will be the eventual winner.) Andy’s quick glance at the BN paint scheme did bring to mind a railroad I enjoyed modeling some years ago. However, I must admit that - true, it was functionally unsound - but I think the BL2 is a design classic. I run several on my MoPac layout - at least making some small homage to the eight of them that Missouri Pacific bought years ago.I must admit too, that I was drawn to Alex’s Pennsylvania RR picture simply because years ago, on a trip to Slippery Rock University, I was enraptured with the wonderful Pennsylvania landscape and the many rail lines meandering around the hill sides. My current model layout is somewhat ‘Pennsylvanian” in scenery design. However, I voted for Drew. I love his “artsy” shot. I haven’t looked, but I imagine I will be the ONLY person to vote for this picture. A spring of grass and a blurry rail!?! You got to be kidding!?!I’m a sucker for still life. Drew gets my vote.

What! No SR Ps-4? I am shocked!
The theme is "green" No hesitation for me, it has to be Andy. As usual some of the submissions, while excellent photographs, were a bit of stretch as far as the theme is concerned. Second in my mind was the picture with the little weed poking up though the ballast.
At least this week nobody submitted a steam picture. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them as much as the rest of you, but they usually seem to get the vote even if they have nothing to do with the theme. I have ranted before that while a great photograph is important, conforming with the theme should be a major part of the challenge.
I liked all of them with a different reason for each. The one that made me smile got my vote.
Thanx David Lustig!

Voted for Andy Cummings. The green painted locos and foliage seemed right for the week. The added bonus that they're being replaced by AC4400CWs (one of my favorites) and thus will become rare only helped out. I also liked it because nothing was blown out (sky) as was seen in some of the other pictures. I almost voted for Drew's...but couldn't quite justify it. Not sure why thoguh...just missing something.

Nothing inspired me. While the wide interpretation of "green" was the most interesting aspect, I'm almost surprised there was no "Green Goat" photo.
The latest installment of our biweekly photo contest, Trackside with Trains.com, is now live.
