Cresent corridor importance
Posted by blue streak 1 on Thursday, April 8, 2010 3:59 PM

From anothe thread.

The FRA Preliminary National Rail Plan:

http://www.fra.dot.gov/Downloads/RailPlanPrelim10-15.pdf

This report has a figure 1 Page 4 that lists freight corridor tons of water, rail, and road. I was floored when examining the map that the NY - I-76, I-81, I40 Memphis was the heaviest route in the US above the UP and BNSF routes to LAX. Memphis, I-40 Amarillo - Barstow and MEM - Dallas were heavier than any other routes even though the split of traffic at Memphis.

If the FRA is going to upgrade this corridor to carry a significant amount of this traffic there will many mega bucks and the connections west of Memphis are not the best.
