Usually week days around 10pm get very busy for both lines. Traffic picks up with upwards of 10(possible) trains an hour. Also, 2am to 5-6am gets mighty busy. Trains heading eastboud stack up in the morning hours from Maple Park/Geneva on back past Rochelle because of morning rush hour for METRA. After that, EB's pick up very heavily on UP. BNSF is always unpredictable. They just show up whenever.

Greetings,

I was just there this past Sunday 6-6. We arrived at about 9:30am and almost immediately saw 2 trains. Then things went dead for almost an hour and a half. A gentleman there told us that we had just missed 6 UP trains including 2 meets near the diamonds in the last half hour. Then the gates reopened and by the time we left at 3:30pm we had seen 15 UP trains and 4 BNSF trains. So just about anytime anything can happen. However with Global 3 now, several westbound stack trains stopped and blocked the diamond as they entered the yard.

Anytime is a good time at Rochelle, like Noah said, unless there is some sort of something or other going on you are pretty much good to go....

No schedules so you can't really say when some times will be busy than others, it's just kinda luck of the draw.....

As far as I know, unless there's some track work going on, anytime is a good time to see or stop and watch the trains.
