Thank you Brian. It is amazing how a lot of people take us for granted. The dept. that i'm on is 100% volunteer and it's been getting a little busy out here this past week.
If I remember right, this may be a repeat from last year?

You have to respect the firefighter. I agree with Ed. They are nothing but professionals. How many other organizations do you see out there collecting money on the street as they do. And everything they collect goes to great causes. KIDS for one. Kids are the best thing there is. Listen to the Oak Ridge Boys, "Thank God For Kids." Then you'll understand.

They (firefighters) are hard working honest professionals. In our town they are all volunteers. How many people do you see out there that risk their own lives for our own? And not get paid for it. They take time from their own families to protect ours.

They are not appreciated enough!!

In New Zealand we, firefighters, collect for charities, like the local Hospice, Hospital for Teminaly ill cancer patients, and for research to find a cure.

Out here in N. Ca. we have what we call the Burn Bregade for the Pacific Burn Inst.. FD's from all over raise money from the rank and file and also standing in the street having fill the boot drives. Then we all get together and drive around the capitol building in Sacto. code 3 to make our donations. I'm talking about 150 to 200 fire engines ranging in size from a small brush rig up to an airport cra***ruck

HFD collects for the MD Telethon every year.
Have yet to meet a firefighter, no matter what city or town the serve, that didnt have a heart, and didnt go out of their way to help others.
We could all learn for them.

Here in Louisville, KY on the first weekend of June each year, we have a local
telethon called the WHAS CRUSADE FOR CHILDREN. This is the 51st year
for the Crusade.

All the fire departments in most of the state, and in southern Indiana have road blocks and are canvassing house-to-house collecting for the Crusade.

Last year, our firefighters and others collected over SIX MILLION DOLLARS.

We are all very proud of our firefighters and their families who are and have been working tirelessly collecting for the crippled and handicapped children. That's who we collect for and donate to each and every year.

If you want to check it out, go to:

http://www.whas11.com

and there will be a link for the Crusade for Children. They will also have the
address if anyone would care to make a donation. They get pledges from all
over the world every year.

We will be watching, and waiting for our favorite fire departments to come in.
The firefighters all have rivalries going between them to see who can bring in
the most money for the children.

When Walt was an EMT, he got to see the little placques in the hospitals, etc. on
the equipment hospitals and agencies received through the Crusade to help the children.

All the money collected goes directly back to the county it was collected from for the children of that country. And the WHAS Crusade for Children is the LONGEST RUNNING telethon in the country.
