I strongly disagree. The Detroit Amtrak station is very nice. Perhaps not as romantic as the MCRR station, but it's comfortable, functional, useful, and clean. That's what a station is supposed to do: they're not for railfans, they're for passengers.

The MCRR station, despite its advanced decay, may be restored by the City of Detroit as a municipal building in the near future.

Cool but what a sad shame to let these stations fall. Try this for BCT another great NYC station left to rot; http://terminal.buffalonet.org/

Take the train from Detroit to Buffalo on the CASO at 100mph with steam train. Sometimes a baseball team or hocky team would be riding !

Just in case anyone's interested, there are some cool pics of the old Michigan Central Station in Detroit on these 2 sites:

www.detroityes.com

www.forgottenmichigan.com

the detroityes will take some looking (go to top & click tours, then go to index, look for michigan central), but the forgotten site has some really neat pics of the lobby, from the roof, everywhere!!!! Somebody went to some great lengths (not to mention the threat of arrest!!!) to get those!!!

p.s. - i'm new here, thought i'd leave something worthwhile for everyone to see (thought of it from the post about chasing the 3985 & preserving history...I think they've been saying they're gonna save MC depot for about 20 years now, but it looks like it could be too late)
