Off Topic--Remember those who served and serve now
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, May 31, 2004 9:19 AM
This is a holiday but I think too many people take advantage of the day without thinking of why it is a holiday and what it means to us now and in the past.

It is great to have the day off, it is good to be with family and friends, and it is nice to go to the lake and be out of school. But do we stop and consider the "WHY" it is a holiday? Do we realize the "COST" to countless families and nations? Many soldiers gave their lives to defend this country and many other countries, please don't overlook their sacrifice today. We have a holiday today to remember them. Today we are having a holiday filled with fun but sometime today, pause, and be thankful that we can have this day as a holiday and why we do.

Now with that said let me slightly change thoughts to our current troops.

One of the guys in the hangar where I work is also an Arkansas National Guardsman. He was called up and put on active duty about 5 months ago. He is now stationed in Iraq. His wife also works in the hangar where I work. She and he talk every night during her lunch break. He has reported to her that the troops need many everyday "items" such as toothpaste, soap, magazines and many other things that we take for granted.

If you have ever wanted to do something for our troops and would like to help him and them please email me and I will provide you with his APO address and you can send him/them some items to show your support for them serving our country. He has promised to share any items we send him and make sure that as many of our soldiers as can receive the extra items we might send them.

Please don't send alcohol or porno mags. Magazines that are wanted include most sporting magazines, car/truck/motorcycle mags, well you know the things that interest men/women between the ages of 18 to 30 or so. If you would like to help then do email me and I will provide you the addy where you can send some of these items.

Thank You for you help in advance.

Yes. Remember the ones that are fighting for us and those who have fought for us. Thier work is our freedom.

This is not necessarily off topic. During WWII the Army sent my grandfather to Cheyenne, Wyoming to work in the boiler shop to keep our trains rolling..... "tanks can't fight in factories."

TG3 LOOK ! LISTEN ! LIVE ! Remember the 3.

I am still hoping for some of our forum family that would like to help our current troops with some of their daily needs. If you would like to help please email me for more info. Thanks.
