We made it alive. Here in Omaha there was nothing out of the ordinary. There were bad storms south and west of us but I still have to check the reports to see about injuries. Hopefully everyone across the midwest is safe. There were a lot of power outages especially in southern and central Nebraska but we lost our power for about 20 minutes around midnight. I'm just glad that we are still alive and that we still have a house and that our friends are OK too.

Thank you to everyone for all of your prayers.

Please pray for everyone in the midwest this evening. It looks like a lot of tornadoes are on the way (possibly for Omaha and Lincoln[:0]). So far Nebraska and Kansas are getting the brunt of the weather. I hope nobody is injured in this event and I hope that if tornadoes do form, they form in the open land and not in a town. Please pray for the safety of all in the midwest this evening and tonight.

Don't worry, I know that sounds difficult when facing the wrath of nature, but the truth is that it is something that you have no control over, and worrying only makes you feel bad. The media is double edged sword, on the one hand they can give you good warning that something is coming, but on the other hand they make their money showing you the destruction and ultimately scaring people.

Tornadoes are generally small local events, and the chances of actually being in one's path is pretty low, even if you live in an area that is prone to getting them. Again the media will bring them to your living room if you can't find one outside.

I have lived through a few severe storms, and they can be pretty scary. The two that come to mind most quickly, I wasn't even at home. I had even less control over my safety than normal. Both were severe thunderstorms. The first one, I was 14 and on a camp out. We were in a grove of tall pines in a leaky canvas tent. There was no place to hide. The second was a couple of years later, I was in the back end of a 747, flying out of Paris, as the plane was trying to climb after take off.

I guess I've been lucky, and never had any real property damage. Property damage is not important, insurance covers most of that, the goal is to stay safe. Material things can be replaced. YOU can't be replaced!

We're lucking out in Northern NY this weekend, but I'm sure the stuff will track east again soon enough.

Good luck out there guys and gals. It has been lousy even here in the east, but nothing like what you have going. Stock up the root cellars and bring Toto in...
