The E&N has recently moved a 28 ft. transformer from the Wellcox yard in Nanaimo to the Langford siding in Victoria for BC Hydro. The transformer will be unloaded either today or Monday and the E&N will pick up the empty CNR flat on Monday or Tuesday(probably Tuesday as they switch the customers on the south end on Tuesday).

Here's a shot of it at Wellcox.

Good to see things are still all up and running over on the island.

I am glad to hear freight service is back on the E & N, what other commodities are being hauled, have they worked out a better arrangement for soliciting business. I know the original deal with the Canadian Pacific made it difficult to gain new business.

A fan of Canadian Railroads,

Freight service on the E&N never ceased. They were talking about dropping the freight service but several of the remaining customers stepped in to prevent it. The E&N handles mostly grain and propane now, but they also move chemicals for two industries in Parksville, about 2 cars a week to both customers. There is also seasonal freight, such as a chemical compound used to control dust on dirt roads, and the odd loads that can't be moved by truck such as the transformer or 25 carloads of contaminated soil.
