Certainly not transit, but the Adirondack runs on about 20 miles of the Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern out of Utica, NY to reach its own trackage just north of Remsen.  All conductors and engineers must be qualified by the MA&N on that trackage.

I believe a gate is used in Rockford.

Boy, that's a mighty tough question.  My 1st guess is that there aren't any due to public liability issues.  My 2nd guess suggests that if there is any such operation, the tourist line would operate only during those times that the transit operator is not running.

Both in Astoria, Ore. and either Freeport or Rockford, Ill. a pseudo quasi ersatz "trolley car" operates on one or both weekend days.  The Oregon trackage is owned by a shortline carrier.  The Illinois trackage is owned by Union Pacific.  When the Oregon tourist trains run, a mainline derail is applied that separates their authorized trackage from the rest of the freight operation.  The same setup probably holds true in Illinois.

Tourist line and Transit?

Are there any tourist lines that share use of the track with a transit line?
