Metra had a bad day yesterday and this morning in downtown Chicago. UP was adding two engines to a lash up of eight when the eight engines rolled away and three derailed on the Canal Street bridge blocking Metra southwest service pretty much for the day and into this morning. As derailments go it wasn't much. Everything stayed upright and in line. The guard rails prevented any bridge damage. The local news had a field day with three gallons of "gear oil" 'getting in the Chicago river (like you could even see a sheen!). Apparently there are still delays this morning. One guy on an Amtrak train was interviewed when forced to wait for two hours. He was quoted if Amtrak didn't already have his money he would finish his trip by plane.
