IBEW isn't part of CAW yet?

CN sure is having it's fair share of problems with employees.

Your railway may be the most efficient in North America Mr. Harrison, but at what cost?

CN Railway negotiations with IBEW run out of steam

2004-05-20 15:43 ET - News Release

Mr. Kevin Kearns reports

IBEW BREAKS OFF NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADIAN NATIONAL RAILWAYS

Canadian National Railway (CN) negotiations with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) have been broken off on May 20, 2004, by system council No. 11 of the IBEW.

"The are big differences on money, benefits, respect for the collective agreement including the discipline policy and the failure to meet commitments from the last contract," says Kevin Kearns, senior system general chairperson.

The union represents 700 CN employees across Canada. IBEW members are responsible for public safety and the safe passage of trains. IBEW members take care of the highway crossing signals and make certain that they function properly for the safety of all. They maintain all signalling for trains, radio communications, fibre optic, rail traffic control systems for safe train operations and all electronic safety apparatus and devices along the right-of-way in the whole country.

Mr. Kearns says union negotiators will now consult with local members to determine the next steps.

For further information contact Mr. Kearns, senior system general chairperson, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, at 604-867-9095, system council No. 11.[^]
