vdemm, you should make it a top piority to see the 3985. It is a sight to behold. Try to find where it stops for routine service. I think it stays in Coffeeville overnight.

Thanks for the info. Are you going to be out watching when the 3985 passes? I've never seen mainline steam and i'm hoping to catch it at one of the towns you've mentioned

Here is a little information I know of this Line and from being a Kansas resident.
From Osawatomie Southbound on this old Mopac Line, some of the major towns include
Garnett,
Le Roy,
Durand,
Benedict,
Neodesha(South Kansas & Oklahoma crossing),
Independence(South Kansas & Oklahoma's Bartelsville, OK Line crossing), then finally Coffeyville.
Parsons, KS is over on the old MKT line.
Hope this helps.

I'm trying to nail down the route that the 3985 will be taking in KS. The route map on the UP only shows Osawatomie, KS to Coffeyville, KS. It doesn't show any of the towns in between. I'd like to know what towns the line goes through, like Parsons, KS for instance. I do not have an atlas that shows railroads.
