I also want to wi***he Transcontinental Railroad a belated 135th anniversary. The line through Promontory was in existence up through 1942 although it had long since been superceded by the Lucin Cutoff; however, you can still drive over the track bed of the former line, and you don't need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to do it.

A reenactment of the driving of the Golden Spike was held on the 100th annivesary of the Transcontinental Railroad in May, 1969. The Golden Spike National Historic Site was dedicated then, and I understand the reesidents of Box Elder County Utah reenact the driving of the Golden Spike every may 10.
