The best way to operate a turntable is to make it go in circles. I`m sorry,I couldn`t resist. Gerald

After losing so many roundhouses in recent years, it's really great to hear of one being put back into working condition. Although I've never actually been at the controls of one, I have been fortunate enough to "ride" an engine around them more than once. You might try the Western Maryland Scenic RR in Cumberland, MD as they use a turntable at Frostburg to turn their engines.

Turntable Operating Procedures
Posted by petitnj on Friday, October 26, 2001 5:53 AM
The Minnesota Transportation Museum is installing a turntable at the Jackson Street Roundhouse in St. Paul, Minnesota (yes I realize how unusual this is to identify a state in these discussions!). I am looking for the operating procedures for turntables so that we may model our instructions from that. If you are part of a group that has a turntable and have a formal procedure for the turntable, I would like to hear from you. If you have any knowledge of historic turntable operation, I would also like to hear from you. Thanks, Noel Petit, MTM.
