CN wants to buy CSX? [%-)] I don't know it's less likely to happen but time will tell... I live next to the former Conrail Riverline. a while back i've seen some CN units at night but most likely to on lease to Conrail at that time.

A class one wanting to purchase another class one? CSX and NS are still feeling the "financial punches" from the Conrail purchase. They're learning some painful lessons. While still profitable, CSX right now is gong through struggles within the higher ranks.

Any of you CSX professionals have anymore info?

Thanks!

All rumors!!! CSX is not going anywhere. CN "looked at " buying the Conrail Shared Assests Area in Detroit but found its not worth the trouble.
Highball....Train looks good device in place!!

Won't happen. this is rumor # 23651 if you wi***o make up a number (lol). We are already down to 6 continental Class 1s. I doubt this would happen. But I would like to state that the Washington Posts article mentioning Brunswick recently, referenced it as being under "The Guise of the Bloodless CSX corperation"! Csx isn't going anywhere, unless it goes bankrupt ( I Won't knock on wood).

I work here in the North Country in upstate NY, and we interchange with the CN on a daily basis. The rumor at the CN end of things is CN is interested in buying our line on CSX from Valleyfield, Quebec to Dewitt yard in Syracuse to compete with the CP. Also to releive some of the congestion in Buffalo.

From the looks of this line of things Rumor Control needs to tighten up a bit. But it would throw everthing from the SURF Board down into a snit -

this is a new one on me.....
it is still going to be CSX/UP......
that is still the major rummor on csx.... and talking with some former managment.... the UP/CSX consolidation is taking place as we speak..been going on for a few years now....
mostly to get any bugs worked out....befor they approch the SURF for an OK to begin the prosess of merging...
basicly to say this......hey...look..we have been working together for years... and gliches have been addressed...so just sign on the dotted line so we can become 1 system.....
june 1st is the 5 year aniversry of the conrail split... and the experation of the 5 year freeze on major margers....
csx is still hireing crews for areas that dont realy need the man power... and now NS is starting on a hireing spree.......if you look at the year that lead up to the conrail split... both rail roads where hiring crews big time..... so.... i think the past is about to repeat itself.... in the very near futuer.... CSX UP....NS BNSF....
its comeing...now the only thing left is the date to delear the take overs.....

The rummer mills is working over time. Coupled with the poison pill proposal to the CSX board it is just fuel for the fire.

Interesting. I think CN would choke on CSX. Might get HH off his high horse (for a while, anyway)

Like others have said, it's probably just a rumour. It's amazng how these things get started. I still have a newspaper clipping from years ago with the headline "CN To Be Sold" claiming that CN was going to be bought out by a US railroad!

UP and CSX? Considering the problems UP had when they took over SP, I seriously doubt it, at least not anytime in the near future.
I don't think we'll be seeing any major mergers for a while.

I have no doubt that the chairmen of each of the big seven have some sort of ongoing work somewhere in their respective shops looking at mergers. They may even be having discussion in the basics of a deal such as I want one share of my company to exchange for one share of the new company and (ego's being what they are) your exchange rate will be 100 of yours for one of the new company.

Oh yes, I will be Chairman and CEO and you can carry my bags. The Headquarters will be located near my home as my wife doesn't to want to move.

I believe those kind of discussions are legal, and are sort of the start of negotiations. Everyone in or around the business thinks that the "end game" will be two railroads, and most everybody has a notion of who winds up where. But it is a guessing game. The answer will come with simultaneous press releases (along with the required legal filings) anouncing the merger plans.

Anybody who actually knows that a merger plan is to be announced and lets the word out early is likley to wind up withh a small room as a primary residence for a few years.
Might not to be to bad-one could get good decorating tips from Martha.

With all the trouble that UP is having right now I don't think they are in any position to be ready for the merger everyone is talking about. Trains sitting on tracks for days on end because they can't turn them around fast enough, Major crew shortages, Looks like they are melting down faster than Three Mile Island. CSX on the other hand has the smartest people that can't run a railroad........ Wait maybe they are perfect for each other, If their should ever be a merger to end all mergers it would have to be BNSF-NS-CN probley the three best ran railroads vs. the three worst UP-CP-CSX.
Cool site to visit http://www.trainweb.org/peninsularailfan/index.html - local site, very cool http://crcyc.railfan.net/ - Conrail site, also cool http://www.thedieselshop.us/MPR.html

UP and CSX using comon technology does not necessarily mean a merger. It would obviously be of great benefit if all the Big 6 and the regionals also used the same dispatching, computer, billing, signal, and other systems. It would make billing and interlining in general easier, reroutes simpler and quicker to work out, and make use of joint trainning facilities, repair facilities a lot easier . My question is: Is CSX getting better systems by making this change? Are UP's systems better than what CSX was using? How different are BNSF and NS and CN and CP and KCS? Dave Klepper
