Omaha World Herald - 5/6.....

UP derails pact with UPS. Twice a week 63 hour trains took "extraordinary measures" on the part of the railroad, which ate up capacity and resources.

UP will begine charging some - read some - customers more to control demand. Trucking association calls UP one of trucking 's best friends.

Interesting...

Aggressive management style trying to keep costs down and maximize efficiency. However, Bump your customers in the nose enough times, and they will find alternative transport companies, even if it's a little less convenient.

Seems like UP decision makers are very good at flexing their biceps, then shooting themselves in the foot.

In other words, we want your business, we just want to deliver it when we feel like it.

I'd like to hear more about the "extraordinary resources" necessary to move the train. And how in the world did the railroads manage to run daily hotshots, if a twice a week job is so hard to accomplish?
