They might be going to a digital type of radio which would yield more channels on the same bandwith, Much like what digital TV is doing now. Just think after 2006 +/- TV as we know it will be dead... Instead of channel 16 or 17 we will have 16.1, 16.2, 16.3 and so on. There is now a plan to make all radios in your cars digital now too, some of the new cars within the last 2 to 4 years already have them and most will be converted in the next few years. My money says their going Digital...

Yes there is a band plan for more channels, and they will be in between
the existing channels (7.5 khz spacing narrow FM ) the radios in use
today will tune to these channels after programming, dont know if
any of the "new" channels are in use as of now, I doubt it. jackflash

Could just be the technology - most new communications radios are coming out with many more channels than most of us want or need.

Or, they could be positioning the product against the possibility that an expansion will occur. As full as the radio spectrum is, though, I'm not sure how they'll get more channels without weaving them between the existing frequencies. Current spacing is 15KHz - don't know if they can go any tighter...

New AAR Radio Channels ??
Posted by mvlandsw on Thursday, April 29, 2004 3:28 AM
I had an engine last night with a radio that had three positions for the AAR channel numbers such as 008 008 instead of just two (08 08) that older radios have. Does anyone know if this means that there are plans to use more frequencies in the future? The radio accepted up to 207 207 with weather forecasts on 100, 200,and 207.
