Thanks Jim.  I forgot about the IL stuff!  Oops...that and some other corrections on the CN stuff (up north) should be squared away now.  I am waiting for a couple more updates and then it should be "done" and I'll post it again.

I figured that the book was a tad bit out of date once I saw the cover and it said compiled 1996!! Although most of the information seems to be good yet, I like this list though and when it is a "final"  I would like to print it off for use as I travel the state.

Okay, found the book! Cool  The sub for Cp to Portage according to the book is the Tomah subdivision. everything else you have down for CP is correct.

BNSF: LaCrosse Subdivision is to the Illinois border, St.Croix is from LaCrosse to Prescott. Don't have track detectors listed, I do have station mileposts.  LaCrosse sub uses 161.100 on the main and 161.160 in the yard. St. Croix uses 160.695 is the mainline frequency.

Hope this helps some.

Just FYI, the BNSF from La Crosse to Aurora is all known as the Aurora Subdivision now, though it's dispatched by two different dispatchers (The La Crosse Dispatcher from LAX-Savanna and the C&I dispatcher from Savanna to Aurora). The line north of LaCrosse is still the St. Croix subdivision.

If you still need it Dan, I've got a list of current detectors for the St. Croix and Aurora Subs I can dig up for you at home. Not sure if you've already got that information or not though.

I do know that the WC installed some new detectors many years ago, although I cannot remember which ones are newer. If memory serves, they were installed soon after the Weyauwega disaster. Whether the wreck was instrumental in motivating the construction, or the construction was already planned, I do not know.

That was one possible explanation I thought of but wondered if there was another reason.  These things have to be pretty expensive!  I bet they're cheaper than a derailment though.

One other thing I've been wondering, why does CN seem to have so many more Defect Detectors than the other 3 roads in WI?  Or is that a legacy of the prececessor roads?

Ahh, that would help.

I started off with my SPV atlas, but I've found almost as many mistakes (or omissions) as correct ones, and that is only 4 years old this year.

I have a book that was published over this way by a local railfan, I'll have to see if I can find it and see what I can fill in for you. The book is about 10 years old though. :(

I got a few updates done.  Still looking for info on the BNSF and the CP (sub name, etc) if anyone is knowledgeable I'd be appreciative.

The Superior Sub uses road channel 3, AAR 79 or 161.295

The detector on the Fox River Sub is a mile or so east (railroad north) of Wrightstown.

I was looking at your list and the Marinette Subdivision uses road channel 4. AAR 15 or 160.335 north of Green Bay. Timetable says 15-15 and confirmed it with a conductor that works that line.

There's a detector (HB/DE) on UP's Harvard Sub at Milepost 73 (I think that would be getting fairly close to Wisconsin, if it's not in the state); it broadcasts on 161.040.

On the Adams Sub, your detectors (160.890, all HB/DE) are at Mileposts 212.1 (Grand Marsh), 236.2 (Dalton?), and 298.4 (North Lake). I don't know what's west of Adams, as that's not covered in my timetable.

Jim's pretty well got the rest of the UP correct.

Thanks Carl.

Jim-
The DD that was at MP120.2 (Rugby Jct) was relocated to MP123.2 from MP120.2, I just couldn't think of where it was until Paul put this one up and I thought to check my notes again.

Are the detectors below gone from the Marinette Sub?
64.0              HB/DE         North of Carbondale
85.1              HB/DE         At Carney
102.6           HB/DE         East of Bark River

Yes, those are still operatin. I left those out since they were over the Michigan border

Dan,

The UP detector on the Milwaukee sub at MP21.2 is/was called Valley; the detector at MP44.2 is the Gurnee detector; the MP 63.2 is the Waxdale detector.  These transmit on 160.485.

On the Kenosha sub there is a detector at MP 46.1 for southbound trains only, transmitting on 161.040.

CP has a detector at MP 36.8 near Rondout. All the CP detectors on the C&M sub transmit on 160.77.

The CN Waukesha sub has detectors near MP54, and also further south around MP44 or so; both transmit on 161.295.  I am not aware of a detector at Ackerville, is this one new?

Jim,

Thanks for the UP/CP info.  Those are two roads I don't know much about as far as trackside stuff goes. Are any of those in IL?

Regarding the ones you mention on the CN...are they in WI or IL?  I'm trying to stick to WI but either way I appreciate the info.  As to the one at Ackerville being there or not I was informed by someone who would need to know what it says ( Smile,Wink, & Grin ) that there is one at that location.  I don't know if it's exactly at Ackerville but was told that was close to where it is.  If the link below works, I believe this is where it is:
Link to MSN Live Map

Dan,

Yes, the detectors I mentioned are in northern Illinois, just over the state line, except for the Valley (UP), Rondout (CP), and the CN (mp44) are further in to Flatland.

Regarding Ackerville, I have never heard any detector there; of course, I haven't been near there recently (within the last 2 months) as a train was going thru, so perhaps it is a new one.

The defect detector at JO has been moved. It's closer to Stevens Point now. I can't remember what the MP is, but I think it's at Rockey Run on MP 253.4, not sure.

Hey fellow Wisconsinites (or anyone else that knows):

I've got a list of defect detectors started listing the defect detectors that I can find for BNSF, CN, CP, and UP in WI.  I am trying to list the detectors by road and sub...and I could use a tiny bit of help.  Any updates would be appreciated either posted here or PM/email directly to me.  Thanks in advance!
