I just returned from a mini-meet of the Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modeling Society in Winslow. This was held at the La Posada hotel, a former Santa Fe-Fred Harvey operation situated adjacent to the Transcon. Several of us sat outside late into Saturday night watching the trains, all of which stop in Winslow for a crew change. My friends and associates who live elsewhere were astonished at the number length of the trains One, from upstate NY, said "I think I will buy BNSF stock as it appears the recession has turned around".
Several participants drove to Winslow from both direction on I-40 and observed lots of truck traffic also.
We all attended sessions of the mini-meet and so no one got a count of the trains which were seen but speculation as we broke up about midnight was that there were 80+ trains seen between 6:00 AM and 12:00 PM
