War Dead Photos Thread
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 23, 2004 2:20 PM
I beat Erik to this one: it's gone. Gentlemen, ladies: this forum really has to revolve around railroads. Politics, religion, ideology -- all are fair IF they are drawn upon to support an opinion or insight about railroads.

I suppose the "Why Bergie Killed Kenny" and this thread should probably go too soon. If you just lock it and let it die...it kind of makes a statement. Killing it and posting on why it died kind of adds more fuel....I understand...really, but some folks don't understand your not taking sides. ....just my dumb opinion.

Drat it Mark, I didnt get the chance to take it where I was headed with it.

Kicked back on the couch for a few minutes, was going to wait and read things as they came in, and fell asleep instead.
Wake up, and poof, its gone.
I was going to draw on the fact that some folks would find the photos ok for public consumption, some wouldnt.
Some, like Dan, would have a comment, but also express the fact that he felt you shouldnt take those photos in the first place.
Was waiting for wabash, who absolutly does not want anyone taking photos of him when he is running a engine, but will write a blue streak here answering anyone railroad and engineers question, and compare it to me, who dosnt mind at all having my photo taken, and take a lot of railroad photos myself.
Was going to contrast the fact thas some railroads seem not to mind photos being taken, as long as you dont get in the way, and some railroad send the gumshoes the first time you point your camera at a locomotive.
Then was going to segway into the train collision in Korea, and point out the fact that, there, public opinion and the Goverments opinion are always one and the same, weather the public likes it or not.
I would bet railfanning over there dosnt exsist, due to the govermental control, and the closed society they live in.
Lead into the fact that we, here on the forum, have quite a bit of leeway not often offered on other forums, and solicit ideas on how we, the members, could come up with a way to prevent you and Erik from having to edit or delete threads, maybe suggest a private e-mail between members when they feel they have to gripe, or "get loud" about something, I even posted my e-mail, hoping someone would take me up on it, so I could test it out...

Guess things got out of hand quicker than I thought, shoot, a guy cant even take a nap on his off days....

The best laid plans of mice and men....

Well, no hard feelings, you did what you felt you had to do, just wish I could have read the rest of the responses before it all went up in smoke...
Thanks,
Stay Frosty,
Ed

Guys,

I wrote my usual densely packed few paragraphs on my thoughts on the reasons for government influence over the media, and my thoughts on their motives.

Even though I had indicated that I was a foreigner, and had based my comments on my own government and its actions, when I got to the end, and had checked it for errors, I hit "Reset Form" rather than "Submit Reply".

I feel quite strongly about the subject but my opinions aren't going to change anything.

Sunday 25th April is the 89th anniversary of the landings on the Gallipoli peninsula in 1915, where British, Australian and New Zealand troops attempted to secure the passage through the Dardenelles to allow access to the Black Sea to get supplies to Russia. Turkey was allied with Germany (it certainly was after the attack). The commander of the Turkish forces on Gallipoli, Attaturk, later leader of Turkey, was celebrating his birthday that day.

In Australia this day, 25th April, is the day we commemorate all the servicemen lost in wars since 1915. I live adjacent to the Australian War Memorial, which is the centre of the ceremonies, and contains many relics of the various conflicts.

This is a very important day for all veterans and the relatives of those lost in war, and the photographs at the subject of the deleted thread (which I've seen) simply drew attention to the fact that the problem continues.

Meanwhile, I keep working on the upgrading of our naval ships, hoping that my work will firstly not ever need to be used in anger, but if it is, that it helps to protect our servicemen so they don't end up like the subjects of the photographs.

I'll be at the Memorial Sunday!

Good job. I agree let's stick to trains. If I want politics, there are plenty of other sites.
Enjoy

Peter,

Thought you'd be interested in knowing this was noted on U.S network news Saturday night.

Their service and sacrifice has NOT been forgotten....nor should it be.
