Galesburg RR days Updates.
Posted by traingeek087 on Monday, April 19, 2004 11:24 PM
I know this is like the third rr days thing posted this year, (sorry) but I was wondering if there's anything new? I am reconsidering going there, and I know #261 is going there on the 25th of June, it's a friday, the day before rr days. And it's in Rock Island the next day, so I was considering renting a car. Has anyone heard any other infromation on this? any Railroad days infro or related topics is more than accepted gladly.

PS, how far is Illinois Railroad Museum and Rochelle from Galesburg?
I tryed mapquest, but I'm not very good with that site, and didn't have much luck in the long run.

Thanks a bunch and sorry to post this once again. Traingeek087

Off the top of my head, Rochelle is no more than 3 hours, depending on how you go. Union, Illinois would probably be another hour or two.

Stuart [:)]

If you go have tons of fun, some for me too, I don't think I am going to be able to make it. [:(]

Hey Willy2 might want to go with you. What a great railfanning trip you two could have. I have never been to the museum at Union but want to go one of these years. Take a ton of pics and don't forget to share them with us. [:D]

Best of luck and drive safely. [:)] [8D] [:p]

On the Sunday of RR Days the 261 will be traversing the old Rock Island line between the quad cities and Bureau Jct. That is north of Galesburg and a bit of a drive but quite do-able (it better be do-able since I'm doin' it!). The Illinois RR Museum is a bit off the beaten path from any direction. I would give yourself an entire day there. Hard to combine RR days and Union. especially if you take in the train show at Carl Sandburg College -- that is a four hour thing right there.
By the way - more steam news - the CP 4-6-4 is coming through Illinois and Wisconsin in mid June
heading to MN where it will double head with the 261. Big steam lives in the midwest!
