Good day at Eola
Posted by eolafan on Sunday, April 18, 2004 5:53 PM
Wow, was today a good train watching day at the BNSF Eola yards in Aurora, IL. Saw lots of trains and three with very interesting notes. Saw old ATSF GP40 with "Track Measurement" cars number 85 and 86 go west from the yard towards Galesburg (scanner chatter said the team on the car wanted main track #1 so it could not have been the C&I line), then train BRCGAL from Belt Railway to Galesburg had two M1A1 Abrhams tanks right behind the units, and then westbound Amtrak #5 had Santa Fe "pattern" dome and Rio Grand painted private car on its reare end (sorry, could not get camera out fast enough and was so excited did not get car names or numbers, sorry again). These sightings and the unusual 85 degree weather (down side was very high winds and lots of dust in the air) made for a great day!

One of the the PVs was "Puget Sound" . Can't remember the other one. Saw it at Naperville.

We were going to go to Eola but instead me and my dad went to Joliet station and did good there also. 17 trains total! Very nice, we were there from 11AM-4PM. The usual Metras and the 2 Texas Eagles went by. Me and him were at Eola all week though. Dave [:D]

Well, folks, yesterday was another good day at the BNSF Eola yards for watching trains....case in point.....I could go a year without seeing many GP60B units and, WOW, yesterday we say THREE in one loco consist coming into the yard, and BAM, followed by one more in the next train through...go figure (and all repainted into the Heritage scheme).
