SD70ACe IN SERVICE!!!!!!

I found this on http://www.gmemd.com/ . It says there are now some SD70ACe's in service...they seem to be (judging by the photo) that they are on the BNSF. Can anyone confirm this? Here's the exact link http://www.gmemd.com/en/company/news/links/20040406_sd70ace.html .

Well sorry guys but I think the SD70ACe is the ugliest engine ever build. For once I like those new GEVO's over EMDs

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The proof will come with future sales. Unless GE has done something about the coupler throw on the GEVO's and Dash-9's, they will have every roadmaster in the country cringing every time they get into the backtracks, marginal track or around switches & curves with small radii. The 7"-11" coupler throw crap with long carbodies, that GE's are famous for, tears up backtracks....EMD's track & turn better than GE's...(a roadmaster's humble opinion)

I personily don't care for EMD's new SD70ACe locomotive, even though I "never" did like the GE AC44CW's until now.....I think the EMD SD70M and the EMD SD70Mac look much more realstic than the SD70ACe.the "only" reason for this goooofe model Is because of the EPA's new law and rules on smog pulution. To this day ,I still would rather see a coal train with a set of GE AC44CW's or EMD SD70MAC's or what ever.I've seen the SD70ACe I have no care for It at least right now.....time will tell. "go BNSF".

Blame it on the EPA...if they didn't have their teir rules...they wouldn't need a new locomotive model.

Dougal, I personally kind of like the ACE. My mindset is that if it somehow helps, advances, or improves someone's view (Especially a Gov't agency) of the railroad, it is better for the railroad, and thus should be apreciated by the railfans. I also think of something I was told recently, "A person who only mourns steam and watches the railroad isn't a true railfan unless they apreciate the foundation of a railroad, its operations and politics".

plus, would you rather see the "Blue Tiger" locos in "Unyun Panic" or BNSF (Or even Central/Southern Xyster at that) pulling freight?

GM72 and GM73 were on a BNSF train through argentine yard here in Kansas City about two weeks ago. I hear that GE has some test locomotives called Evolution..something or other. Any confirmations?

Hey UPTRAIN, I think it was you who I was talking to about this on MSN, about covering the sides, to cover the hoses, I think they did it. I've examined the photos and the ones I have that I found on the Internet, and it appears covered. You were right about that. congratulations.

Actually, a Blue Tiger in service over here might be quite interesting although it would appear to be quite small since it is an export design.

Just think, 3300 HP with AC traction motors designed for tight clearances and light rail loadings, suitable for big-time tonnage in the rest of the world. They can currently be found in Malaysia and Pakistan.

GE says that all problems that have plagged the older units was fixed... Including the cab vibration and noise, and they even have an updated AAR style control stand. Good bye to the desk. As for EMD they say the biggest improvement for them was to give the crew more comfort than before. (If you talk to any train crew they will tell you a GP7 has more comfort than a Dash 9.[swg] I was always a GE fan more than a EMD fan although I respect both as a railfan. Time will tell who will be dominant and who will be laid to rest or put to pasture. I hope niether because every great company needs a rivial. Thats how new inovations are made. My example - Trains vs. Trucks, EMD vs. GETS, Chevy vs. Ford, You get the picture now. The Biggest promblem with EMD isn't the locomotives they build but the mind set of the managers at GM[zzz], which is exactly why GE got by them in locomotive sales and Ford got by them with Truck and SUV sales. [:-^]

Well let's see GM just laid to rest Oldsmobile because of management that was asleep at the wheel. Will they lose EMD because they were complacent in the locomotive race as GETS was working on customer satisfaction (perceived or otherwise). How do you go from producing the quintessential epitome of a road switcher (SD40-2), and cap that off with the SD70M and lose the locomotive race. That would be like the Honda Accord or the Toyota Camry falling by the wayside to the Chevrolet Malibu.
Unfortunatly I don't have the opportunity to run a diesel for a living, as I have heard some of the problems that engineers hate about AC44 and C44-9W's, there must be a reason why GETS is winning the race.

Yea GE just tries Harder and Better than GM.

And for DOUGAL I agree with your assement that is SD70ace is the UGLIEST From EMD in a while, Must have been designed by the same team that made the funky and ugly front ends on the new Chevy pickups and Suv's. For heaven sakes the rounded front end was better. Hey I wonder if its the same team that did the GP 30...[V]
