Linn Westcott's book MODEL RAILROADER CYCLOPEDIA- VOLUME 1 STEAM LOCOMOTIEVS (Kalmbach Publishing) pages 98 & 99 probably has what your looking for.

I agree with Gregg's advice on this, try a library search for 'Weissenborn' Locomotive Engineering for that era, c.1870
I have one here but its too valuable to photocopy!
Otherwise look for the old 'Engineering Journals' or even 'Scientific American' for that era.

I highly doubt that schematic drawings of locomotive cabs were ever prepared, except possibly for the wiring of the cab lights. Schematic drawings are almost exclusively used for electrical circuits and do not show the actual location of components. I believe you are seeking engineering drawings. You can probably find what you are looking for in a Locomotive Cyclopedia of that era. These are not easy to find, but should be in major university or city libraries. Trainshed Cyclopedia, Knoxville, TN. occasionally offers reprints of portions of old cyclopedias.

Steam Engine Schematic Drawings

Howdy All,

I have been searching for a set of schematic drawings of a steam engine. Any standard freight type (non-switchyard type) that served from 1870 to 1895 will do. Specifically I need a drawing of an overhead view and I need a drawing of the interior cab floor layout. These drawings need to have measurements listed. They also need to have the position of any windows drawn (applicable to the cab interior view only). The interior cab drawing does need to match the overhead view drawing. They must be of the same engine in order for it to be of use to me.

I've been searching for this information for over 7 months. So far the search has been fruitless. Does anyone have any ideas? If you can supply me with a set of drawings, or have any ideas of where I can get them, please contact me at the following:
