CP Golden Beaver colour scheme?

I saw an ad (Model Railroader) for Kato HO locos with the choice of Canadian Pacific colour scheme with the Golden Beaver. Is that a special type of CP logo? A silhouette like the Chessie kiten?

I see the beaver emblem on some of the CP engines on the old D&H. I like it. The locals here on the CP tend to call it the golden rodent. I guess the local railroaders are not to impressed. [:)]
It can be a problem when taking photos in bright sun light as it reflect a lot of light.
You get a good exposer of the loco but the emblem just becomes a gold blob.
I've seen it on some freight cars and it looks good.

Those locomotives are vary sharp looking, one of the best paint schemes out there on the class 1's.

I still do occaisonally see covered and open hoppers with script lettering. I also have seen some boxcars and baggage/RPO cars with script lettering as well as with the sheild logo that are used in MOW service.

I forgot to mention this before, but a caboose with the new Golden Beaver logo does exist. When CP was using the multimark, their cabooses were yellow. In the town of Virden, Manitoba, there's a CP extended vision caboose on display beside the town's old station. It's in the regular yellow, but has a big Golden Beaver logo on the side. Also worth noting is that the station is built out of stone, something you don't see often. Walthers makes an HO caboose with a Golden Beaver logo, but it's red, not yellow.

Kozzie, I'm not really exactly sure what they are, but ya, I would say they are SD40 EMDs-- anybody else know for sure?

The CP "multimark" is neat, but I would agree with the others, the beaver shield is definately the best!

It might be worth adding that the beaver on the shield (without the surrounding "belt" )appeared on the cabside of CP steam locomotives in the black and Tuscan Red scheme introduced on the "Jubilee" locomotives, probably in 1936.

Looks like it will be a good looking Kato loco. I'm not sure how long it will be before we see them in the stores down here. You haven't seen any have you Peter?

Maybe some of the "up over" that like Katos have seen/bought one?

Here's the CP Golden Beaver logo:


This logo is actually adapted from the old logo that CP used to use before going with the Multimark (half-circle and triangle, also called the Pacman logo) in 1968. There were several variations of this original logo.









Also, while we're on this, the logo used by CN before the noodle was also a very Canadian logo with a maple leaf. The noodle came in 1961. However, I have seen a CN crane and MOW equipment with the old logo on them, perhaps CN will be using it for some equipment.

Heres what i would say About the CP paint schem,e you are referring to,

Although, On hand, The beaver scheme was introduced in 1997, Locomotives really didn't start displaying it until the early to middle months of 1998.

CP's eastern corridor, the STL&H, (St. Lawrence and Hudson) at that point stopped relettering CP lcomotives to STL&H.

So whats in a beaver?

good stuff, if you ask me, but back the locomotives, The beaver, or Crest is a national Canadian emblem. Like Moose and Beaver, most people would automatically asociate Beaver with Canada.

What colour is it?
Well thats simple- it is not the same as CP's "Action red" or "candy apple red" for that matter, The beaver was simply painted over CP Rails "Systems" paint cheme, which made it's debut in 1993. So it's a gold beaver, over the "systems red"

I know they have it at my local hardware store, if you look through the paint sample things, you might be able to find the "CP SYSTEM RED" paint colour.

so in effect, there is no difference between system red, and beaver red.

The lettering is White, the font used on all Locomotives 1993+ is Bank Gothic.

the font used in 1968 in the "action red" scheme is a Helvetica variation.

You're right! I know some people from the South, one of whom, a real old time "Southern Belle" died recently. I always got on very well with her, and there might be something more in common than there first appears, possibly because some older ways of doing things remain there and here.

But if I go into a Fast Food restaurant in the USA, I generally have to give my order at least twice, not because people can't follow what I'm saying, but just because it sounds different, and thecounter staff tend to be distracted by what I sound like.

I was sent to a five nation military committee meeting in Washington in 1994, and one night we all went out to dinner. There were Americans, Canadians, British, New Zealanders and Australians at one table, and the waiter was quite confused by the different accents.

Some people even think I'm English, for the same reason (accent).

I was born in Sydney, hence my "southerner" reference in the Alco RS thread.

The crest is all in shades of yellow and gold, with the locomotive base colour of red appearing through between the belt and the shield and beaver, It is placed just in front of the white lettering "Canadian Pacific".

I see it on the CP loco's that run from Roberts Bank all the time.

Only ever seen it from a distance (usually from the car)....

Big fan of it though, it's kinda like a canadian emblem, adds more personality to the loco.

Unlike CN that refuses to be called "Canadian National"
