Why the 90's Ruled
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 2, 2004 6:18 PM
There's this new TV show out about the 90's, and i thot it might be a good subject on a friday night. So what are some reasons the 90's ruled in the Rail world. Here is a list of what I think are some of the biggest events, news stores good and bad, and places to be in the 1990's. Whats your list?

*Steamtown Grand Opening - 1995
*BNSF Merger - 1996
*Steam, Steam, Steam 261, 700, 3751.....
*CP & CN Alco Farewell
*Wisconson Central Goes around the World
*Norfolk Southern Steam Farewell - 1994
*Floods of 1993
*CP Rail in Northern Vermont "Vans & Alcos"
*Conrail Split Up - 1999

Good or Bad, the 90's where a intresting time to railfan in.

The late 90s saw the last of the Royal Hudson and passenger traffic all together on BC Rail.

Hopefully the Royal Hudson (2860) will make a return one day. [:(]

Oh, an interesting fact about BC Rail that I didn't know until a few days ago....

All BC Rail Road Locomotives are equipped with 2 sets of ditch lights.

Apparently, because the tracks twist so much up in the mountains and following the coast, they have set up each road loco with 2 sets of ditch lights, each light pointing at a slightly different angle, done so they can better see around the corners.

I never noticed until a friend pointed them out to me the other day.
